NEWS FROM THE SECRETARY GENERAL

Tom Jensen welcomes new members and talks about the DCBF Member’s Survey and the work on the ‘new’ home page. This Autumn, three high-level Chinese delegations visited Denmark and in that connection meetings with DCBF members were also organized. Tom Jensen also talks about the role played by DCBF in connection with the planning of seminars in Beijing in September 2007. The seminars were attended by the Danish Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Helge Sander.


The Visit to DCBF by Deputy Minister of Commerce, Mr. Yu Guangzhou

On 13 September, Danish-Chinese Business Forum had the honour of receiving Mr. Yu Guangzhou, China’s Deputy Minister of Commerce, for a two-hour meeting at the offices of Plougmann & Vingtoft a/s. In his speech, the Deputy Minister gave a summary of China’s economic growth over the past few years and its current prospects and challenges, with government-sanctioned statistics. He also strongly encouraged increased cooperation between Denmark and China and pointed to some of the sectors in which cooperation is particularly relevant.

Innovation Center Denmark, Shanghai has been established through a joint initiative by the Danish Trade Council (The Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. This joint initiative is reflected in the services and functions offered by the Center. Denmark established its first innovation center in Silicon Valley, USA in 2006 and a third Innovation Center is planned to open in Munich, Germany in 2008.

News from 17th Communist Party of China, 2007. New leaders were elected at the first plenary session of the 17th CPC Central Committee on Monday morning.

Hu Jintao remains head of the nine-member Political Bureau Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the CPC, the Party’s top leadership. The newly elected Political Bureau Standing Committee also consists of four new members. They are Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang and Zhou Yongkang
