The year 2010 marks the 60-year anniversary of the Danish-Chinese diplomatic relations. To celebrate this event, Danish-Chinese Business Forum organised a reception in cooperation with Denmark-Hong Kong Trade Association on 10 May 2010. Around 100 Danish and Chinese executives from the business community, as well as representatives from the Chinese embassy and Danish ministries participated in the celebration at the University of Copenhagen.

The keynote speakers were the Danish Minister for Economic and Business Affairs, Mr. Brian Mikkelsen, and the Chinese Ambassador to Denmark, Mr. Xie Hangsheng. The essence of both speeches was the strengthening of the cooperation between Denmark and China.

The minister emphasised that Denmark was one of the first countries to create diplomatic ties with China, and he made it clear that the ties between the two countries are growing stronger. Furthermore, he highlighted the commitment of the Danish government to further engage in the commercial and cultural partnership with China. The minister also pointed out: “I pay special attention to the development of economic and trade relations between our two countries. I will work hard and do my best to make contributions together with you to promote the further development of economic and trade relations between China and Denmark.

The Chinese ambassador emphasised the good relationship between Denmark and China, which has been re-established. In this relation he stated that “mutual trust is a guarantee for a strong bilateral cooperation.” In addition, the Ambassador pointed out that the Danish Prime Minister Mr. Lars Løkke Rasmussen’s visit to China was a great success. The ambassador underlined that Denmark and China are getting closer, expressing support for Mr. Brian Mikkelsen’s ambition to further develop the Danish-Chinese trade relations.

In his speech, the Chairman of Danish-Chinese Business Forum, Mr. Nils Foss, stressed that “close cooperation and regular high-level meetings between the Danish and Chinese governments are important in order to maintain our strong commercial ties.” After the speech of the Minister for Economic and Business Affairs  the chairman expressed his contentment with the minister’s statement regarding the Danish government’s wish to increase its cooperation with China.

At Danish-Chinese Business Forum we are happy that our members, as well as representatives from the Danish state administration, took part in this important celebration. This marking of the 60-year anniversary has sent an important signal to the Chinese about Denmark’s wish to further expand the Sino-Danish cooperation.
