EU-China Managers Exchange and Training Programme

European Commission and Chinese government extend EU-China business training scheme for employees at EU-based SME's

Today China is one of the world’s most dynamic and constantly growing markets. But small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) often lack the resources to establish business relations with China. In 2006, The European Commission came up with an initiative to support both SMEs, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and self-employed entrepreneurs by offering them METP – a ten-month executive training in China, which was originally meant to comprise only four intakes.

The fully-funded programme offers EU-based companies a possibility to train their employees to become qualified experts in the Chinese market. Participants receive a seven-month business Chinese language training, intercultural training, take part in tailor-made seminars and site visits to Chinese companies, cities and administration bodies, including a three-month internship in a Chinese company.

Besides the organisation of the whole stay, the EU covers all tuition fees and provides participants with a monthly living allowance of 1.000 Eur. All graduates receive an official diploma signed by the EU Ambassador to China.

Due to the success of the programme, the fifth METP intake will start in May 2010, with the application phase starting on 21 September, 2009 and end on 7 January, 2010.
