Dear members,

Our Annual General Meeting on April 28 at the headquarters of A.P. Møller-Mærsk clearly illustrated the vitality of our network and the interest of our members. More than 110 people were present that day.

We were proud to welcome the newly appointed Prime Minister and honoured that Danish-Chinese Business Forum was the first official contact the Prime Minister had with the Danish business community. This certainly emphasizes the key role that our network plays in Danish-Chinese business cooperation, as the Prime Minister himself stated, and we welcome his promise to strengthen the commercial ties with China as the economic forces of the world are shifting towards Asia.

Major Activities Planned for 2009/2010
As you all are well aware, our activities are decided by our members. In 2009, Danish-Chinese Business
Forum will primarily focus on some of the long term projects in which Denmark is engaged, as many
of our members have expressed an interest in the following:

In December 2009, Denmark will host the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. Danish companies are world leaders within cleantech and sustainable energy. This important event will present a great opportunity for Danish companies to display their products, and it also provides Denmark with a political platform of high importance. The members of Danish-Chinese Business Forum should be able to benefit from this platform in relation to China.

Danish-Chinese Business Forum is, by demand of our energy and cleantech working group, hoping to welcome a Chinese delegation headed by the Chinese Vice-Minister and head of the National Energy Administration. Danish-Chinese Business Forum will prepare a special programme for this delegation, allowing the group members to introduce themselves and their sustainable solutions to the delegation, and emphasize the importance of employing energy-efficient and green solutions as part of the process of reducing CO2 emissions.

I would also like to relate to you the example of our member DEIF A/S, who invited a Chinese delegation to Denmark in November 2007 from the Southern Grid Cooperation. Danish-Chinese Business Forum was helpful in organising a special programme in Copenhagen for the delegation, including a 3-hour seminar with the Danish Energy Authority. DEIF and the Chinese delegation appreciated the seminar very much due to the fact that there were established good contacts. This year DEIF has asked us to render the same service to a high-ranking delegation arriving from Shenyang in China, as well as to another high-level delegation from the Southern Grid Cooperation. This, of course, is a service all members are welcome to use.

Our life science group has among other things succeeded in setting up the agenda for the Danish minister of health’s visit to China in December 2008, in close cooperation with the Danish Medicines Agency and the Danish embassy in Beijing. The visit included meetings with the Chinese minister of health and the Chinese State Food and Drug Administration. This working group will develop further the coming year.

The theme of Expo 2010 Shanghai is ”Better City, Better Life,” and it is also a long-term project through which Danish companies get the opportunity to profile their high-level products and competencies. ”Better City, Better Life” should become a showcase for Danish architecture, infrastructure and design, for the Danish health sector model, including Danish pharma-, medico- and biotech companies, and, of course, for Danish innovation. Expo 2010 is an excellent platform for holding seminars and nourishing your Chinese consumers. This is a golden opportunity for all of you members of Danish-Chinese Business Forum to further develop your contacts with Chinese business people, organisations and ministries.

Throughout 2009, Danish-Chinese Business Forum will be working intensively to expand and enhance its main activities. We are particularly motivated by our members’ strong affiliation to our activities. For instance, our new sourcing/import group has in just one month become a major success with almost 40 active members, which is why we have decided to create two sub-working groups. Eight main areas in the field of sourcing and import will be discussed at four already arranged meetings of four hours’ duration. This demonstration of commitment among our members will only positively influence the activities of Danish-Chinese Business Forum in the coming year, and we look forward to setting up further activities in cooperation with our members.

I would like to finish by stating: Some of you have had a direct advantage of being members of our forum. Some of you have mainly helped other members. All of you are able to get important indirect value of the membership by using its important network possibilities. This value is mainly obtained by active participation.
