In November 2008, Danish Chamber of Commerce in China (Shanghai) held the annual “Business Person of the Year” Award ceremony for the second time. The award was established in 2007.

Candidates for the award are nominated during each year by members of Danish Chamber of Commerce in China. 3 main criteria define their choice of potential candidates:

- Has achieved significant results for his/her company/institution in China over a period of several years.
- Has contributed to the understanding between Denmark and China.
- Is respected in both Danish and Chinese business communities.

Nomination
This year, the nominees included two people with Chinese background. One of them was the former Chinese ambassador to Denmark and an honorary member of Danish-Chinese Business Forum, Zhen Jian Guo, who still takes an active part in the promotion of Danish business interests in China.

Like last year, the nominations were presented to the Election Committee that consists of 2 board members from Danish Chamber of Commerce in China (Shanghai) and 2 board members from Beijing and Guangzhou, respectively. The Election Committee selects 3 candidates for the award, and the winner is announced during the ceremony.

Awarding the 2008 Business Person of the Year
And it gives us great pleasure to let our members know that it was Zhen Jian Guo who became the winner of the 2008 Business Person of the Year award due to his long distinguished career and involvement in Danish-Chinese cooperation. The award was presented by Peter Trampe, Chairman of DCCC Shanghai on November 1, 2008.

It proved to be an eventful evening for DCCC Shanghai and some 120 participants at the Hyatt on the Bund. All three DCCC branches had joined forces to make this a pan-China event, and members throughout China had contributed a lot during the nomination process. The ceremony celebrated the achievements of three outstanding business persons who do a remarkable job in the sphere of Danish-Chinese business. All three candidates were present at the gala and were introduced with the help of Flash Point Presentations that covered their lives and business backgrounds.

Ambassador Zhen Jian Guo
Ambassador Zhen Jian Guo started his long and fascinating diplomatic career as Attaché at the Chinese Embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1971. During his service as Chinese Ambassador to Denmark in 2002-2006, Ambassador Zhen, among many other initiatives, was instrumental in gathering dozens of Denmark’s largest corporations into the Danish-Chinese Business Forum. Ambassador Zhen has devoted his professional life to furthering Danish-Chinese relations in political, cultural and not least commercial arenas. His efforts have paved the way for the success of current Danish business activities in China.
