The Sino-Danish research institute will be established over a period from 2009 to 2013. It will house 100 researchers, 75 Ph.D. students as well as 300 Master students when fully established. Half of these will come from Denmark. Denmark is thus one of the first countries in the world to establish research-based university education in China.

The purpose of the new institute is to:

1. Make Danish research and education more visible in China
2. Intensify Danish-Chinese research cooperation
3. Improve the possibilities for Danish students to study in China
4. Enable recruitment of eminent Chinese researchers and students to Denmark

A new building will be constructed to house the institute, representing Danish architecture and design. Construction is scheduled to start already next year.

All eight Danish universities are participating in the project; i.e. Copenhagen Business School, Denmark’s Technical University, IT-University, Copenhagen University, Roskilde University, University of Southern Denmark, Aalborg University and Aarhus University.
